Joshua L. Dorosin

Joshua L. Dorosin is the Senior Deputy Legal Adviser in the Office of the Legal Adviser at the U.S. Department of State. In his current position, he provides for the overall management of the bureau and directly supervises a number of legal offices, including the Offices of Political-Military Affairs, African/Near Eastern Affairs, and Treaty Affairs. Since the September 11 attacks, Mr. Dorosin has served as the Department’s leading legal expert on the international law issues related to use of force and ongoing military operations, and is widely recognized as a leading expert in the international law of war and national security law. Mr. Dorosin also currently serves as U.S. Head of Delegation to ongoing meetings under the Convention on Conventional Weapons. Mr. Dorosin received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1994, and earned a master’s degree from the London School of Economics in 1986 and a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University in 1985.
