Matrix is at the forefront of modern private and public international law, with particular expertise in human rights, environment, law of the sea, and investment arbitration.
Members are instructed in ongoing human rights cases at the ICJ (including two of three Genocide Convention cases), Strasbourg, the IACtHR, the UN Human Rights Committee, and the Committee Against Torture. Our team is pursuing civil claims for human rights abuses by Tanzanian mine owners, Malawian tea plantation owners, and the owners of Colombian oil and gas interests.
In environmental law, our members lead a range of climate change cases, including advisory proceedings in the ICJ, ITLOS and the IACtHR, and contentious cases before Strasbourg and the Human Rights Committee. Our team is involved in advising on the emerging legal framework for deep sea mining and on the global plastics treaty. And our members are pursuing innovative claims for damages for environmental pollution by UK domiciled companies abroad.
Beyond that, we are regularly instructed in investment arbitrations, boundary and delimitation disputes and a range of other contentious and non-contentious matters.
