Assistant Legal Adviser, Ocean and Overseas Territories Team, Legal Directorate, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

Having spent over 20 years in the Royal Navy, Kara has recently joined the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office as a Legal Adviser. Legal advisory roles in the Navy covered a broad spectrum of international, disciplinary and compliance roles, and included legal adviser to the Combined Maritime Force in Bahrain, legal adviser to the Developments, Concepts and Doctrine Centre and lead international lawyer. She completed her LLM in International Law at Bristol University in 2016 and has an interest in autonomy and net zero in the maritime, most recently contributing to the National Oceanographic Centre’s ‘Net Zero Oceanographic Capability’ project.
