Alice Lacourt

Legal Counsel, The Commonwealth Secretariat

Alice Lacourt is the Legal Counsel at the Commonwealth Secretariat, responsible for legal advice to senior leadership team and to the organisation as a whole on corporate governance, including international administrative law and privileges and immunities. The Secretariat is the principal intergovernmental body of the Commonwealth, responsible for advancing and achieving the shared goals of the association’s 56 member Governments in advancing peace, democracy, sustainable development and respect for diversity and human rights.

Before joining the Secretariat, Alice was an Assistant Legal Adviser then Legal Counsellor at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and served as First Secretary (Legal) at the UK Mission to the United Nations. Her areas of work included independence of states, humanitarian and human rights law, war crimes and economic sanctions.
